What is the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure?

Message from the Chairman

On April 1, 2013, with the authorization of the Prime Minister of Japan,
the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure was established to create, protect and nurture green cities.

We live in an age where sustainable urban development has become increasingly important as a means to deal with such societal and environmental challenges as global warming, biodiversity loss, falling birthrates, an aging population, and a population decline. By developing sustainable cities, we not only create beautiful landscapes that enrich lifestyles but we also help protect familiar life forms, reduce the impact of earthquakes and disasters, and mitigate the heat island effect.

Our efforts to create, protect and nurture green cities are vital for producing safe, comfortable living environments and urban landscapes and for protecting biodiversity. With government and businesses playing an important role, this is also an initiative that each and every individual can participate in to help resolve the environmental problems we face today.

Our organization seeks to support citizens, businesses and public and private entities in a diverse range of initiatives related to green urbanism. In addition, we try to contribute to greener cities by conducting surveys and research, disseminating information and engaging in PR efforts.

As we work to create safe and comfortable urban environments and lush green cities where humans and nature coexist in harmony, we thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.

The Organization’s Aims

Making Cities Green!
The Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure works with like-minded companies, entities and citizens to help create, nurture and protect green cities. More specifically, our organization promotes the collaboration, coordination and mutual support of relevant players with the shared goal for green, sustainable living. For example, we work with organizations and people involved in the reforestation and protection of community forests, green urban planning and the building of rooftop greening or green areas on top of artificial foundations. We also support those who conduct research in green urbanism as well as public and private entities that spread awareness of green urbanism through such events as green fairs.
